How to deal with COVID-19 symptoms?

Winter is the peak season for respiratory diseases, both SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses are very active. Omicron BF.7 variant was the predominant strain in this outbreak in Beijing. Compared with Delta and other variants, the pathogenicity and virulence were significantly reduced, but the transmissibility was stronger.

After infection, there may be symptoms such as fever, cough, dry throat and sore throat, fatigue, taste and smell abnormalities, and some people have no obvious symptoms after infection. The course of disease is generally 3-7 days. People who have been vaccinated or ordinary young adults have a shorter course of disease and relatively mild illness. The elderly, especially those over 70 years old with underlying diseases, have more complicated symptoms and longer course of disease.

Except for some high-risk groups such as the very elderly and those with underlying diseases, most of the infected people only need symptomatic treatment.
  1. If you have fever, headache, sore throat and other symptoms, you can take antipyretic and analgesic drugs.
  2. If you have a cough and expectoration, you can use some cough and expectoration drugs.
  3. Sore throat and dry throat can take some lozenges.
  4. You can use some antihistamines or nasal sprays for a stuffy nose.
In addition to rational drug use, it is more important to have a good rest, drink more water, because the virus has self-limited, ordinary people will generally be cured in 1-2 weeks. If a high fever does not relieve for more than three days, or if you have symptoms such as shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, you should seek medical advice immediately.
