Tips
DEET & bug bite
protection
For long-lasting protection from
mosquito and other bug bites, use a repellent with
diethyltoluamide. Commonly known as DEET, you can buy
this over-the-counter product as a cream, liquid,
lotion, spray, stick or towelette.
The Environmental Protection Agency
gives these tips for safe DEET use:
Do not apply over cuts, wounds or
irritated skin.
Do not apply to hands or near eyes
and mouth of young children.
Do not allow young children to apply
this product.
Avoid over-application. Use just
enough to cover exposed skin and/or clothing.
Do not use under clothing.
After returning indoors, wash
treated skin with soap and water.
Wash treated clothing before wearing
it again.
When using an aerosol or pump spray
with DEET, do not spray it in enclosed areas, and do not
spray it directly onto the face. Spray on hands first,
then rub on face.
