Tips for
understanding your prescription
At the pharmacy
Go to the same pharmacy
consistently. With a complete record of all your
medications, the pharmacist can make sure a new
prescription doesn't have bad interactions with other
medications you are taking.
When you pick up your
medication, ask the pharmacist these questions:
What is the medication prescribed?
Why am I taking it?
Do I take it with or without food?
How often do I take it?
What time of day do I take it?
How long do I have to take it?
What should I do if I miss a dose or
take too much?
What are the potential side effects?
Call for refills the at
least one day before you need them. This lessens the
risk of running out.
