 Pharmacy Tips

Right way to apply sunscreen

Have you ever gotten sunburned, even though you used sunscreen or sunblock lotion? To prevent this, follow these suggestions whenever you put on sunscreen or sunblock:

Use about 1 ounce each time you apply it.

Apply it before you go out. Sunblock takes 20 to 30 minutes to bind with the skin.

Reapply every three hours if you are outside for a long time.

Reapply right after swimming or profuse sweating -- even if it claims to be waterproof.

In addition, don¡¯t count on sunscreen to protect you completely. Whenever possible, limit your time in the sun during peak sunburn hours -- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
